Membership Terms

Effective date: 27 October 2025
Entity: The Main Media Inc. (“The Main”, “we”, “us”, “our”)

1) Acceptance of Terms

By creating a Free Reader account or subscribing to The Main Insider, you confirm that you’ve read and agree to these Membership Terms, our Terms of Use, and our Privacy Policy. These form a binding agreement between you and The Main Media Inc.

2) Who can subscribe

You must be (a) at least the age of majority in your province/territory (or have parental consent if a minor), and (b) able to enter into a contract. Accounts are for personal, non-commercial use.

3) Plans & Benefits

  • Free Reader (free): up to 5 free articles per month, plus our weekly newsletter. Free features may change over time.
  • The Main Insider (paid): unlimited access to all stories, exclusive/early features, member event invites, partner special offers, and 10% off in our shop. Benefits may change or vary by region/partner at our discretion.
We may add, modify, or discontinue specific benefits from time to time to improve the programme. Where material changes reduce value, we’ll provide reasonable notice.

4) Prices & Billing (CAD)

  • Monthly: $5 CAD per month (auto-renews monthly).
  • Annual: $50 CAD per year (auto-renews yearly).
  • Taxes: Prices are before applicable taxes (e.g., GST/HST/QST). Taxes are calculated at checkout based on your location.
  • Currency: All amounts are in Canadian dollars (CAD).

5) Payment, Auto-Renewal & Changes

By providing a payment method, you authorise us (and our payment processor) to charge the applicable fees and taxes on a recurring basis until you cancel.

  • Auto-renewal: Your plan renews at the end of each billing cycle unless you cancel beforehand.
  • Payment failure: If a charge fails, we may suspend Insider access until payment is successful; we’ll prompt you to update your payment method.
  • Price changes: We may change fees with advance notice. Continued membership after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the new price.

6) Trials, Promotions & Codes

Any trial or promotional rate will convert to the standard price unless you cancel before the trial/intro period ends. Trials/discounts are limited, non-transferable, and may be one per person. Partner offers are subject to the partner’s terms and availability.

7) Cancellations, Pauses & Refunds

  • Cancel anytime: You can cancel in Account → Billing or by emailing hello@themain.com. Your Insider access remains active until the end of the current billing period.
  • Pausing: If a pause feature is available in your account, paused time won’t be billed and benefits are suspended until you resume.
  • Refunds: We don’t offer pro-rata refunds for partial periods, except where required by law (including consumer protection laws). This does not affect your statutory rights.

8) Account Security & Acceptable Use

You’re responsible for your account and for keeping sign-in links confidential. Do not share magic links or credentials. No scraping, bulk downloading, or redistributing paywalled content. We may limit or disable accounts for abuse, sharing, or suspected fraud.

9) Access, Availability & Changes

Service may occasionally be unavailable due to maintenance or events outside our control. Content and features may be updated, removed, or re-categorised. We’ll avoid material disruptions where feasible.

10) Intellectual Property

All content on The Main is protected by intellectual property laws. Your membership grants personal, non-commercial access only. Any reproduction, republication, or commercial use requires prior written permission.

11) Third-Party & Partner Offers

Some benefits are provided by third parties. The Main isn’t responsible for those providers’ terms, availability, or quality. Disputes about third-party offers should be directed to the provider, though we welcome feedback.

12) Communications & Privacy

By creating an account, you consent to receive transactional emails (e.g., magic links, receipts, service notices). You can opt out of marketing emails at any time without affecting your membership. We handle personal information per our Privacy Policy.

13) Suspension & Termination

We may suspend or terminate membership for violations of these terms, our Terms of Use, or unlawful activity. If we terminate for cause, no refund is provided. You may terminate at any time as per Section 7.

14) Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. For material changes, we’ll provide reasonable advance notice (e.g., email or in-product). Continued use after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.

15) Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Quebec and applicable federal laws of Canada. Venue and jurisdiction are within Montreal, Quebec. (Nothing limits your non-waivable consumer rights.)
