April Lea began making perfume at home in 2013, working with botanical materials and older extraction methods at a point when most independent fragrance still meant repackaged synthetics. LVNEA (say it loo-nay-uh) has since grown into a studio and storefront on St-Viateur East, entrance around the corner on Casgrain, where everything is blended and bottled by hand in small batches. The line covers eau de parfum and perfume oils, all unisex, built from natural essences and uncommon extracts. Ghost Pine, a conifer-and-old-growth composition, is the scent that made the name; a collaboration with musician Chelsea Wolfe on a ripe peach, jasmine and patchouli blend shows the range runs well past forest floor. Limited releases follow whatever materials the season turns up, and sample sets are on hand for anyone reluctant to commit to a full bottle sight unseen.
