Bombay Mahal

Bombay Mahal has been a Parc-Extension fixture since the early 2000s, and the lineup at the door tells you most of what you need to know. Owner Suresh, originally from Gujarat, opened the place to bring Mumbai-style cooking to Montreal, adapted for local palates. The name pays homage to the city formerly known as Bombay, with "Mahal" meaning palace. The room is spare and the service brisk, but the food is the point: thalis, samosas, pakoras, butter chicken, tandoori, biryani, and a vegetarian menu worth returning for. It's BYOB, the prices are low, and the portions are generous.
