Jatoba

Downtown Montreal has no shortage of places to close a deal or mark an occasion, but Jatoba makes a strong case for itself on atmosphere alone. The former Philips Lounge space, redesigned by La Chambre Design, is genuinely one of the more beautiful rooms in the city: original windows and moldings, classic bistro lamps above the bar, and a terrace overlooking the downtown skyline that earns its reputation. Behind the project are Nicolas Urli and Antonio Park, the team responsible for Flyjin and Restaurant Ha. In the kitchen, chef Olivier Vigneault runs a Japanese-leaning menu built for sharing, with standouts across the raw bar, dumplings, and fish. The seafood platter is the move for a full occasion; a few smaller plates and a round of cocktails works just as well on a lighter budget. Lunch service runs Tuesday through Friday, dinner Tuesday through Saturday.
