Pulp Books & Café

About

Born out of a love for books and the neighbourhood it calls home, Pulp Books & Café has quickly become a cornerstone of Verdun’s evolving cultural scene since it opened. Opened in December 2023 by experienced booksellers Alex Nierenhausen and Daphnée Anctil, this 1,200-square-foot space blends retro charm with a contemporary ethos. With its bold signage, vibrant decor inspired by 1970s Montreal, and a café serving espresso drinks, Pulp invites visitors to linger, explore, and connect.

Stocking an eclectic mix of titles, from contemporary fiction to cookbooks, graphic novels, and children’s literature, Pulp emphasizes accessibility and community-driven curation. The shelves reflect both the owners’ passion and the tastes of their neighbourhood, with local recommendations shaping the inventory. Beyond books, Pulp thrives as a hub for literary events—poetry readings, book launches, and film screenings—all aimed at fostering dialogue and creativity.
