Mexico Restaurant

Opened by Mauro Cruz and Jessica Rubi, both from Oaxaca, the cooking at the simply named Mexico Restaurant reflects years spent moving through kitchens across Mexico, the U.S., and Canada before settling in Montreal. The menu sticks close to the essentials—tacos, tortas, quesadillas—but birria is the centre of gravity here, served as tacos, in soup, or by the kilo for take-home feasts. Portions are unapologetically large, prices stay low, and there’s no alcohol to distract from the food. It’s a place where the focus is squarely on nourishment, not noise.
