Nevski

Nevski brought khachapuri to Montreal before most people here knew what to call it. The Georgian cheese boat, a hollowed dough filled with mozzarella, sulguni, and a runny egg yolk, is still the move, but the menu earns its keep beyond that single dish. Pelmeni come three ways, vareniki arrive butter-slicked with caramelized onions, and the zakuski list covers everything from pirojki to stroganoff poutine. The Russian-Georgian overlap is the point: comfort food from two traditions that have always borrowed from each other. Cité du Multimédia is an unlikely home for it, but the room fits the menu well enough. Cocktails lean vodka-forward with house syrups.
