Salon Freyja

Salon Freyja didn’t set out to be a typical hair studio, and it shows. Founded by artists Ewelina Wnek and Mike Chacko, the space grew from a simple idea: if hair is a craft, then the workplace should run on the same care and intention as the work itself. That approach led Freyja to become Montreal’s first carbon-neutral salon and later a B-Corp, a rare move in an industry built on disposables.

Inside their Little Italy space, much of the furniture and detail work comes from local makers, a nod to the neighbourhood they serve and the values they’re trying to model. The team puts as much weight on learning, communication, and well-being as they do on technique. Even the waste—clippings, foils, bottles—is processed through Green Circle Salons, keeping most of it out of landfill.
