      The Plains of Abraham

The federal government is giving Canadians a reason to get out of the house this winter. From December 12, 2025, to January 15, 2026, the Canada Strong Pass unlocks free or heavily discounted access to national parks, museums, galleries, and train travel across the country.

The deal is straightforward: kids 17 and under get into Parks Canada sites and participating museums for free, while young adults aged 18 to 24 get 50% off museum admission. Everyone—regardless of age—gets free entry to Parks Canada locations, plus 25% off camping fees if you're planning to stay overnight. VIA Rail is throwing in free travel for kids 17 and under when accompanied by an adult, with a 25% discount for passengers aged 18 to 24.

For Montrealers, that means easy access to spots like Mauricie National Park, the Sir George-Étienne Cartier National Historic Site, and the Plains of Abraham Museum in Quebec City.

Escape the city for a winter hike, bone up on Canadian history, or hop on a train to somewhere new—the timing's right for all of it.

Winter camping, train rides, and more to come

The camping discount covers everything from winter camping and backcountry overnight stays to oTENTiks, yurts, cabins, and historic accommodations. If you've already booked a campsite or roofed accommodation directly with Parks Canada for dates during the Canada Strong Pass period, you'll automatically receive a refund for the 25% discount.

VIA Rail bookings work a bit differently: Use the discount code CANADAFAM when booking for kids 17 and under, or CANADA1824 for young adults aged 18 to 24. If you've already booked a trip that falls within the eligible dates, fill out VIA Rail's online form to request a refund, and they'll process it in order of departure date.

The Canada Strong Pass first launched in summer 2025 and is set to return again from June 19 to September 7, 2026, but this winter window is your chance to explore the country without the crowds. Go to any participating site, museum, or VIA Rail station and take advantage of the offer.
