Lopez is a space for those who exist outside the mainstream. It’s a shop, an event space, and a community hub, but a DIY mentality ties it all together. Inspired by the fashion scene that emerged out of New York City in the 1990s—a moment when brands like Supreme, Stüssy, 10.Deep and X-Large blurred the line between streetwear, art, and attitude—Lopez's founders “felt that Montreal was missing a shop that could be a bridge between the streets and the runway” according to co-owner Graeme Anthony.
So he, along with Gustavo Lopez and Denis Desforges, created Lopez. Gustavo studied design at Concordia University, Denis came out of the punk music scene, and Graeme worked in screen-printing. Their combined backgrounds helped shape both the shop’s curation and its creative energy, expressed through graphic sensibility, a commitment to independent brands, and its openness to experimentation.
