Librairie un livre à soi

Un livre à soi is an independent bookstore on avenue Laurier Est in the Plateau, opened in 2022 by Léo, Frédérique Saint-Julien, and Olivia Sofia. The name nods to Virginia Woolf, and the shop leans into that literary spirit as a gathering place built around discovery and exchange. Its shelves run to literary fiction, essays, art books, and a solid children's section, with a handful of secondhand titles mixed in. The owners program regular literary events and frame the store as a space open to a range of voices and perspectives. They have also taken a public stand against books made with generative AI, returning titles with AI-generated covers or colouring pages to distributors in support of human illustrators and the people who make books. Dogs are welcome on leash.
