Bello Deli sits on Place d'Youville in Old Montreal, a couple of streets south of the Saint-Paul tourist run, doing counter-service Italian deli work. Paninis are the business, pressed to order off a board that runs long: caprese and grilled vegetables on olive bread, egg salad with bacon and caramelized onion, tuna with green apple and hot peppers, meatballs with sopressata and roasted pepper, muffuletta with spiced olives, chicken with brie, sweet potato and fig marmalade, prosciutto with tomato and mozzarella, and a smoked meat version with coleslaw, mustard and swiss. Espresso and salads round it out, and the kitchen takes catering. Seating is limited and the room fills at lunch.
