Honourable George O'Reilly Park

A long riverfront park running along Boulevard LaSalle in Verdun, Parc de l'Honorable-George-O'Reilly earns its following through sheer variety. The St. Lawrence forms its eastern edge, and the bike path threading through connects west toward Lachine and east toward the Old Port. On site: a natatorium, wading pool, basketball and volleyball courts, a pétanque area, picnic facilities, and the Verdun municipal greenhouses. The Maison Nivard-De Saint-Dizier, one of the oldest surviving structures in Quebec, sits within the park and operates as a museum and archaeological site. An outdoor dance floor near the greenhouses runs a free daily program of salsa, tango, and social dancing from late May through August. Birdwatching, fishing, and kayaking draw regulars to the water's edge, and the park functions year-round, with cross-country skiing and walking trails in winter.
