The oldest butcher shop at Atwater Market that's entered its fourth generation and founded in 1933 by Adélard Bélanger, this family-run business is now in the hands of Éliane Bélanger—his great-granddaughter—and longtime employees Sébastien Perras and Charles Cuny. All three have earned their stripes behind the counter, and together they plan to honour the legacy while giving the space a much-needed refresh. Éliane, who started working here as a kid standing on a milk crate, never intended to take over the family business. But when the opportunity came, she stepped up—and brought her own contributions, including the shop’s popular prepared meals. With Sébastien’s decade of experience and Charles’s French training, the trio complements each other well. Their best-seller? Marinated beef hanger steak, a staple for loyal regulars who still reminisce about Éliane’s grandfather. Ninety years in, the goal is still the same: good meat, good people, no bullshit.
