Olympic Stadium

Montreal's Olympic Stadium is the largest covered amphitheatre in Québec and one of Montreal’s most polarizing landmarks. Designed by French architect Roger Taillibert for the 1976 Summer Olympics, its iconic sloped tower and long-troubled retractable roof have been as much a part of its identity as the events it’s hosted. Over the years, it’s been home to pro baseball and football teams, international soccer matches, monster truck rallies, concerts, movie shoots, and even mass gatherings ranging from papal visits to public vaccinations. Its concrete form and financial legacy earned it the nickname “The Big Owe,” but it remains an unmistakable presence on the city’s skyline. Whether viewed as a symbol of vision or excess, the stadium continues to shape the identity of Montreal’s east end and Olympic Park, serving as both a venue and a reminder of the city’s appetite for ambition—cracks and all.
