Pensione Popolo

Seven rooms above Casa del Popolo on Saint-Laurent, right at the seam between the Plateau and Mile-End. The Pensione is an extension of the Casa del Popolo and Sala Rossa family, which means the cultural programming, the crowd, and the general sensibility of one of Montreal's most storied independent music venues is built into the address. Rooms vary in configuration, from doubles with shared bathrooms to larger setups sleeping four with private facilities, and rates stay well below what comparable neighbourhoods charge elsewhere in the city. Guests get a 25 percent discount on food at Casa del Popolo downstairs. Laurier and Mont-Royal metro stations are both within walking distance, and the stretch of Saint-Laurent immediately outside covers most of what anyone would need for a few days in the city. The kind of place that attracts a specific traveller, and knows it.
