Percival Molson Memorial Stadium

Built in 1914 and named in honour of a McGill athlete-turned-soldier killed in WWI, Percival Molson Memorial Stadium is as stitched into Montreal’s fabric as Mount Royal itself. It’s seen everything—from a royal visit by Princess Elizabeth to Olympic field hockey in ’76, from Sam Etcheverry-era Alouettes sellouts to a near-abandonment in the ’90s, when a tree was reportedly growing through the north stands. But the old stadium refused to die. Revived in 1998 by the CFL’s return and tens of millions in renovations, it now seats just over 23,000 and hosts everyone from McGill varsity teams to ultimate frisbee clubs. Wedged between the mountain and the city, its jagged sightlines and cut-corner end zones are part of the charm. The beer may no longer be Molson, but the name—and the ghosts! 👻—remain.
