Apple Sainte-Catherine reopens in a restored heritage building

The expanded downtown store features local stone, a refurbished copper cornice, and double the floor space.

Apple Sainte-Catherine has reopened with space that doubles the footprint of its previous location. The new store occupies a historic building at the corner of Sainte-Catherine Street West and Rue de la Montagne, doubling down on its investment in downtown Montreal after nearly two decades in the area.

The redesign's façade pairs Saint-Marc stone with local granite, while the building's original copper cornice was extensively restored by local artisans. Inside, the store has been designed with varied table heights and wider navigation routes for wheelchair users.

"For nearly 20 years, we've been proud to be part of the downtown Montreal community, whose spirit of creativity and innovation continues to inspire us," said Deirdre O'Brien, Apple's senior vice president of Retail and People.

The expanded space houses a dedicated pickup area for online orders, a Genius Bar for technical support, and room for the store's nearly 200-person multilingual team.

Apple used its opening to spotlight Quebec creativity: To mark the occasion, Montreal illustrator Catherine Potvin led live iPad art demos, drawing custom illustrations on customers' shopping bags.

Apple Sainte-Catherine is one of five Apple retail locations in Quebec and 28 across Canada.

    The next big thing.
