Mike & Nick & Nick & Alice feels ripped out of a different era, but in the best way. It's a shaggy-yet-slick mid-budget action comedy with time travel, gangsters, a love triangle, and absolutely zero interest in playing it safe. Studios used to take chances on movies like this, and sometimes they'd turn into cult favourites. This film has that potential.
In this action-comedy, two gangsters (played by Vince Vaughn and James Marsden) and the woman they love (Eiza González) must survive one violent night when a crime boss and his sons come after them for betrayal. Things get even more complicated and wild when the trio discovers a time machine.
A quick aside: Time travel has been a popular topic in film, and when it comes to why, nostalgia is an easy answer as it allows the premise to revisit the past while still pushing ideas forward. Here, however, it works less as a big idea and more as fuel: It raises the stakes, creates chaos, and keeps the night unpredictable.
