Montreal summers evoke a specific collage of colourful images: parks filled with sunbathers, picnic blankets, and barbecuers; cocktail glasses scattered on a terrasse table, illuminated by the sunset; and music festivals uniting people for days and nights of live performances.
With SUNSAT, the Society for Arts and Technology [SAT] wraps this feeling into a tight eight hours on its rooftop terrasse with community, curated music, cocktails, food, and dancing until the golden hour arrives. There are two sessions on the SAT Rooftop (1201 Saint-Laurent Boulevard, 3rd floor) on August 8, 2026 & September 12, 2026, both from noon to 8 p.m.
Musical journeys and dialogue
Presented in collaboration with Living Room IDs, a music curation platform founded by Montreal-based DJ and producer Laurence Matte, SUNSAT’s lineup ranges from house and deep house to dub, jungle, and electronic sounds via a carefully curated soundtrack led by key figures in Montreal’s underground electronic scene.
The program evolves as the earth rotates and the sun moves into the horizon, starting with laid-back afternoon grooves and gradually shifting to more energetic, atmospheric vibrations before welcoming sunset and bidding farewell to the day. Relax on the terrasse or let the dance floor lure you in.
On August 8, 2026, kiju joins Laurence Matte for a groove-driven musical dialogue. Her identity as a community organizer and meticulous selector makes for a production quality that glides, quickly shifting textures, tempos, and influences while remaining deftly in control. This confident style pairs aptly with Laurence Matte’s understated, unpredictable, genre-hopping sets that balance contrast with a steady, driving beat.
On September 12, 2026, the series concludes with Vayia, representing a new wave of DJs reimagining a genre-fluid approach to house music. Her b2b with Laurence Matte shapes a musical narrative that unites groove and tension, intensifying the dance floor gradually through sunset.
Daytime rendez-vous
SUNSAT elevates the experience of a typical “darty” beyond back alleys and backyards playing Top 40s and streaming algorithm soundtracks by taking the late-night club concept and transforming it into an all-day gathering.
Focused on great music, craft cocktails, delicious food, and dancing, the 8-hour DJ sets are the events’ primary attraction, but SUNSAT is a celebration of much more from Montreal’s creative ecosystem: Visitors can enjoy a seasonal menu from chef Catherine Lepine Lafrance, sip signature cocktails from the SAT Buvette created by mixologist Patricia Jeanson, and enjoy a special exotic margarita created in collaboration with Cointreau for the occasion.
