A Maghrebi supermarket on Jean-Talon East in Saint-Léonard, stocked with the Moroccan, Algerian and Tunisian groceries you won’t find at a chain store: spices, bulk nuts, imported pantry staples, olive oil, and traditional cookware and utensils. There’s a halal butcher counter, a fish counter, a produce section priced below the supermarkets nearby, and a bakery turning out traditional pastries and cakes along with French ones. A kitchen handles prepared food, tajines, pizza and sandwiches, and there’s mezzanine seating for eating on the spot. Weekends are busy enough that the aisles and the parking lot both back up, so go early if you want room to shop.
