Boucherie Le Classico

Nabil, who grew up in the neighbourhood, opened this halal butcher with a clear mandate: good meat, affordable sandwiches, fresh bread. The Quebec lamb and merguez draw the grocery crowd, but the lunch counter is where Classico has built its reputation. The steak sandwich — strips of beef fried to order, dressed with sauce Algérienne and harissa, tucked into a hoagie from the bakery across the street — is genuinely excellent. A steak sandwich and a can of Hamoud soda will cost you $8.50 (last we checked), which is probably the best lunch deal on the strip.
