Spedzira Caffè

Three friends from the restaurant world—Stefano Sperduti, Luca Macera, and Alen Dzinic—took over a long-vacant space on Ontario and turned it into this neighbourhood café. The name is a portmanteau of their surnames; the sandwiches are named after the owners too.

The Luca stacks mortadella, pesto, and grilled peppers on bread from Boulangerie San Pietro; the Stefano goes capicollo, sopressata, and spicy mayo. Coffee here skews old-school Italian (think 1990s espresso bar rather than third-wave temple) and it's roasted by Luca's mother, whose Sylphide Torréfactorie operates out of the same space. Fresh-pressed lemonade, house juices, and Italian pastries round things out. You'll get out for under $20, sandwich and drink included.
