Mile End, Montreal
Théâtre Fairmount

About
Théâtre Fairmount sits on the second floor of a building on avenue du Parc in the Mile End, up one flight of stairs. The room holds 600 standing or 300 seated, with wood-panelled walls, a high ceiling and a low stage that pushes out into the crowd. Neon Productions took it over in 2015, but the address has been a music room far longer: it housed the original Club Soda from 1983 to 1999, then Kola Note and Cabaret Mile-End, and the stage has held Oasis, Soundgarden, Ben Harper and week-long Michel Pagliaro residencies. Booking stays deliberately wide, running from indie and hardcore through metal and late-night DJ sets, most of it all ages. There are two bars, one at the back and one along the side, and the room also rents for private events.
