Circuit Gilles Villeneuve
About
The track was built on Île Notre-Dame for the 1978 Canadian Grand Prix, which Gilles Villeneuve won, and it took his name after his death in 1982. The 4.36-kilometre lap runs out along the Olympic Basin and back through a series of chicanes, ending at the wall painted with “Bienvenue au Québec,” better known as the Wall of Champions since three world champions put their cars into it during the same race weekend in 1999. Outside of the Grand Prix and the other events that close it off, the circuit is open to the public for free, and it is one of the best places in the city to ride, run or skate without worrying about cars. The surface is smooth, the loop is flat, and cyclists use it in packs. Jean-Drapeau metro is a walk away.
