About

The Peck Building holds the corner of Saint-Laurent and Saint-Viateur, five storeys of red brick put up in 1904 for John W. Peck & Co., then Montreal's second-largest clothing manufacturer. It was expanded in 1913, carved into workshops in the 1930s, and kept the rag trade running until the industry left the city in the 1990s. Ubisoft took the fifth floor in 1997 with roughly 50 employees, moving into space the animation software firm Discreet Logic had just left, and expanded until it filled all 251,000 square feet. The studio behind Splinter Cell, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, Far Cry, Assassin's Creed and Rainbow Six Siege has spent years as the largest video game studio in the world by headcount. Twice now, a century apart, this building has housed the biggest employer in the Mile End.
