East Africa Restaurant

East Africa Restaurant has been on rue Sherbrooke West in NDG since around 2011, a small family-run spot where everything is cooked to order. The menu is straightforwardly Ethiopian: doro wott (chicken in berbere with egg), doro alicha (mild, with turmeric), lamb kye wott, beef tibbs, zilzil tibbs (beef fillets with onion, peppers, and tomatoes), ye assa wott (boneless whitefish in berbere), ground beef in both spiced and mild preparations, and a full range of vegetarian stews covering red lentils, yellow split peas, shiro, spinach, and cabbage with carrots and potato. The vegetarian combination platter covers the spread. Salads include azifa (lentil with lemon and olive oil), bouticha, and a beetroot and carrot option. Everything arrives on injera, made in house. Reservations are strongly recommended.
