Hwang Kum

Hwang Kum has been a fixture on Sherbrooke Street West in NDG long enough to earn a loyal following among Korean food enthusiasts who know what they're looking for. The menu covers serious ground: grilled meats from bulgogi and galbi to samgyeopsal, a roster of soups and stews including galbitang, gamjatang, and sundubu jjigae, cold noodle dishes like bibim naengmyeon and hoe naengmyeon (with raw fish), and specialties that are harder to find elsewhere in the city, among them jokbal (pork feet with sweet black sauce), golbaengi (spicy conch), and the jeongol hot pots built for two. Haemul pajeon is a fixture at practically every table. The room seats around thirty and keeps things simple. Soju and makgeolli round out the drinks list alongside wine and beer.
