New Verdun Restaurant

A Verdun institution since 1959, New Verdun is the kind of diner that defies easy categorization: the menu spans Chinese food, Quebec classics, Greek specialties, Italian pasta, pizza, submarines, grillades, and seafood, all under one roof. The Chinese section is the standout draw, with an extensive lineup of combos, chow mein, chop suey, fried rice, Szechuan dishes, and General Tao that regulars order alongside egg rolls and wonton soup. The rest of the menu holds its own: submarines loaded with smoked meat or steak, poutines in a dozen variations, souvlaki and gyros plates, and a full pizza roster. Portions are generous and the room, recently renovated, is comfortable and family-friendly.
