BALBOA just does Italian food really well, with just enough irreverence to keep things interesting. The latest from the Tomahawk team (Mignon, Matí, Buvette Pastek), this modern pizzeria in Old Montreal blends warmth and flair: wood-fired pies with chewy, blistered crusts; playful antipasti; and cocktails that lean classic with a twist. The space, designed by Amlyne Phillips, feels like a cross between a retro living room and a well-lit dinner party—colour, comfort, and just the right dose of eccentricity. Chef Arnaud Rosboch (ex-Hoogan & Beaufort) leads the kitchen, giving the familiar just enough edge, while Khaled Elattare and Arnaud Chiasson Poirier handle drinks with precision. With 75 seats and an easygoing vibe, it works for date night, group dinners, or a slow midweek unwind.
