Raani occupies two floors at 360 Bay Street, in the middle of Toronto's Financial District, from restaurateur Ambica Jain and her hospitality group MJAJ, who also run Adrak in Yorkville. The name means queen in Hindi and Sanskrit, and the kitchen takes its brief from the princely courts of 18th and 19th century India, working from regional recipes and techniques rather than reinterpreting them. The layout moves guests through a cocktail bar and lounge into a main dining room built around a ten-seat chef's table, with 162 seats across the two levels. Below is the old bank vault the building came with, kept intact and turned into a private event space.
