What are the best movies and films you can watch during the holiday season? We've all got our family traditions, our brain candy (canes), our old reliables that we return to year after year, but what are you going to watch when you've had your fill of predictable rom-coms and manufactured warmth? When you're craving something with actual substance? You talk to experts.

That's why we asked head programmer Benjamin Pelletier and associate programmer Rachel Samson of Montreal's Cinema Moderne for a curated collection of what they think people should be watching during Christmas and the holidays.

Here, you'll find a selection of films that's as expertly curated as their monthly programming. The options here are both classic and bold, trading saccharine cheer for raw emotion, unfiltered humanity, and seasonal magic.
