One of the Mile End's most beloved sandwich shops is shutting down.
Nita Tout Garni, the Parc Avenue spot that became a neighbourhood staple for its gourmet sandos, rare natural wine, and exceptional focaccia, has announced it's closing its doors after five years.
The team posted a heartfelt farewell this week: "Une page se tourne, avec gratitude… Cette aventure n'aurait jamais été la même sans votre fidélité."
The project brought together Marc Bungarten, Gabriel Monnin, Jesse MacDonald, Nicolas Despeyroux, François Letendre-Joachim, Etienne Sirois, and Charles Bouchard—a group of friends with roots across Montreal's hospitality and wine import scenes, including Bar Henrietta, DuttyWine, and Vins Nomad.
The idea had been percolating for years before the pandemic gave them the push to commit. The space itself was designed by Kyle Adams Goforth, the same hand behind Elena and Boxermans, but the owners built it out, painted the walls, and opened with a menu built entirely from scratch: homemade bread, house-made soda syrups, and breakfast and schnitzel sandwiches that quickly became top picks.
