In a city where every new opening feels like a statement and every closure stings like losing a friend, 2025 delivered both in equal measure.

Montreal's dining and bar scenes gave us plenty to celebrate this year—from Derek Dammann and David McMillan's return at Grille-Nature to the polished debut of Limbo, from Limousine's long-awaited opening to the emotional homecoming of L'Express after renovations. New spots like Flamme du Sichuan brought flavours the city's been waiting for, while Pasta Pooks and Chez Greenberg turned years of pop-up momentum into brick-and-mortar dreams.

But 2025 wasn't without its heartbreaks. Entre-Deux closed its doors, taking with it a neighbourhood "no stress" haven for natural wines and easy hangs. Cardinal Tea Room's book-lined walls and jazz trios fell silent. Bonheur d'Occasion, Jaja, Tendresse, and Taglio all said goodbye, leaving gaps that won't easily be filled.
