Le Firmament has no chairs. At roughly 300 square feet, it can't quite fit the full drinks menu of the coffee brand Saint-Henri, but then again, it was never built for anyone to open a laptop or while away an entire afternoon. What it has instead is a nearly 200-year-old stone wall, a mosaic the bar's artist built from the same stone as Notre-Dame Basilica, and baristas hired for the languages they speak, their ability to talk about the church, and to pull a good shot.
It is also, on paper, the relocation of the café where the whole company started. The original Saint-Henri shop on Notre-Dame West closed in June, its replacement now this to-go counter on the basilica’s front plaza in Old Montreal, six kilometres to the east.
