On December 13, the open-to-all skating rink in ROYALMOUNT’s Urban Park will become the backdrop for a drone light show for a blend of tech, rhythm, and visual spectacle.
Skating with complimentary rentals runs from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., hot chocolate's on hand, and at 8 p.m., the drones go up. Choreographed to a live DJ set, the show's designed to turn the rink into a full icy evening setup of lights and music.
Drone shows have become a thing in the past few years with less fireworks and greater precision. This one's tailored for the holiday season to pull in families, couples, and anyone looking for something to do that would make the most of a Friday night.
The DJ lineup pulls from Montreal's scene: DJ Apollo, known for open-format club sets and mashups; Mando, a Vietnamese-Canadian artist blending hyperpop, Y2K nostalgia, and genre-fluid experimentation; Vina Vaselina, repping the Bahay Collective; and FIXX, a member of FOR THE ART, a Montreal collective of producers and creatives. It's a mix of styles that keeps the energy shifting with some bass-heavy moments here, maybe some unexpected genre jumps there.
The skating rink itself is open daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. through the season, but December 13 is when it becomes the main event. Show up early if you want to skate before the crowd builds, or arrive closer to 8 p.m. if you're just there for the drones.
Dress warm—you'll be outside for a while.
ROYALMOUNT is accessible by metro (De la Savane station via the covered walkway), bike, or car, with four hours of complimentary parking. See more of ROYALMOUNT’s holiday programming here.
