Le Plateau-Mont-Royal, Montreal
O Patro Vys

About
O Patro Vys occupies the floor above Bily Kun on Mont-Royal Est, which is more or less what the name means, Czech for the level above. It opened in 2003 as a non-profit, built to answer a gap its founders saw in the Plateau: plenty of artists, not enough rooms willing to take them. The space holds about 150 and gets reconfigured for whatever is booked, so the same room handles concerts, dance and theatre pieces, screenings, vernissages, album and book launches, readings and private parties. The stage runs 16 feet by 12, with a house sound and lighting rig for acts that turn up with nothing. Downstairs, Bily Kun has been pouring Becherovka, slivovice and Czech lagers since 1998, and the two work as a pair, a bar with a venue stacked on top of it.
