Fenêtre Sur Kaboul

About

Fenêtre sur Kaboul has been among those anchoring Afghan cooking on the Plateau since 2014, offering a cuisine that’s still underrepresented in Montreal to this day, and doing it with clarity. The room leans warm and transportive, layered with textiles, photographs, and references to Kabul that frame the food without turning it into décor theatre. In the kitchen, the focus is on traditional dishes built around rice, grilled meats, dumplings, and yogurt-based sauces. Ashak and manto—Afghan dumplings finished with garlic yogurt and spiced sauces—are foundational orders, while kabobs arrive properly seasoned and paired with fragrant basmati rice that carries as much weight as the proteins. Larger plates like qabuli palow, Afghanistan’s national dish, lean into generosity and balance rather than heat. It’s BYOB, unhurried, and personal.
