Quebec's first escape room when it opened in 2014, Échappe-Toi Montréal built its identity around local history and culture from the start, with scenarios drawn from Montreal's past rather than generic thriller or fantasy templates. Nine rooms are currently on offer, spanning a hockey strategy room (La chambre des joueurs Powerplay), a 1970s decommissioned TV studio (TV Champlain - Blackout), a Montreal tattoo parlour on the brink of a massacre (Le pacte de sang), a diamond trafficking investigation, a cursed Hochelaga village treasure, and a hybrid format room combining 30 minutes of escape game with 30 minutes of action play (Les Fantômes du Forum). Professional actors serve as game masters throughout, in costume and in character, and participate in a post-game debrief. Scenarios, sets, props, and sound design are all created in-house. The operation has since expanded internationally, with additional locations including one in Bordeaux, France.
