G. Lafrite

For more than three decades, G. La Frite has quietly held down a residential corner of Lachine, doing exactly what a neighbourhood casse-croûte is supposed to do. The shop dates back 37 years, passing from founders Guy Payette and Gilles Côté to Denis Raymond in the mid-90s, and then to his daughter Karine Raymond in 2016. Karine grew up behind the counter, starting at 19, and the continuity shows. Longtime staff still run the line, orders move fast, and the menu hasn’t chased trends. Poutine is the anchor—generous, gravy-forward, reliably satisfying—with solid onion rings and straightforward steamies alongside. Cash only, no fuss, deeply rooted.
