Narval

Narval is a bring-your-own-wine fine dining spot that treats Quebec’s boreal pantry not as trend, but as foundation. The fixed tasting menu—rotating every two months—dives into the wild, coastal, and foraged ingredients of eastern Quebec, with dishes like capelin roe and morilles from Forestier du Jall, Baie-des-Sables cheese, or sticky toffee pudding reimagined with buckwheat honey ice cream. There’s no à la carte and no compromise: just a series of tightly composed plates that chart a route through the province’s lesser-known terroirs. Labrador tea infusions, Rimouski-roasted coffee, and wildflower brews from La Cabottine round out the offering. It’s quietly ambitious, refreshingly unpretentious, and rooted in place. At $98 for the full experience—and without the markup of a wine list—it’s also one of the more accessible ways to eat with this level of care and detail. Just don’t forget to bring a good bottle.
