    Howdy.

Not sure if you knew, but the Bulletin—now in its 168th consecutive week of production, unfettered by snow, rain, heat or gloom of night—is written by humans. One of them is me, The Main's Managing Editor, JP Karwacki.

I don't normally spend my daytime hanging around outside of bars, I swear. | Photograph: Jeanne Provost / @jeanneprovost

I've been with The Main since late 2023 following a decade and change writing almost exclusively about Montreal. I'm not from here originally; I'm what I call a 'naturalized Montrealer' in that I came here for school but never left.

Why'd I stay? Once I had a relatively useless-on-the-job-market degree in Creative Writing and English Lit in my hands, I tried owning a bookshop for a few years, spent a long time cooking and dishwashing, and earned a teaching degree among other things. It's a checkered past, but throughout all that time, I started to get bylines (that's fancy mediaspeak for 'got my name published') anywhere I could, from Cult MTL and the Gazette to the now-shuttered Montreal chapter of Eater. I was the inaugural editor of Time Out Montreal, too.
