Welcome Back From the Dead, Frank And Oak

The Montreal brand was insolvent a year ago. New owners have acquired the name, ditched the stores, and are betting the audience never left.

A year ago, Frank And Oak was insolvent. Today, it's relaunching. What happened in between is a story about a Montreal brand being picked apart, acquired, and put back together by people who think they can do it differently.

When the Superior Court of Quebec approved the sale of Frank And Oak's intellectual property to Lamour Group and Thread Collective Inc. in spring 2025, the original corporate entity, UGC Canada Holdings Inc., was left to file for bankruptcy and wind down. The 14 stores closed, existing inventory was liquidated, and the company that built the brand was gone.

The name survived, however, and whoever bought it made a decision: The new operating company is relaunching Frank And Oak today, March 19, positioning the brand around natural fibres, quality basics, and limited-run collections rather than the kind of broad retail footprint that helped sink it the first time. A men's line goes first; womenswear follows in the fall.
