The Scottish tavern Bruce raised its tartan on December 4, 2025, marking the opening of the first Scottish tavern Montreal's seen in some time. It's a place where you can eat haggis and drink Scotch, or order a glass of Quebec wine and a plate of braised beef cheek. All told, it's a tavern in the Scottish tradition, filtered through the city's culture.
Named after Barbara Bruce, an Ontario Scot who moved to the city in 1981 to start her own interior design firm, the restaurant is the work of her son William Charbonneau, his partner Camille Desmarais-Plouffe, chef Scott Love, and beverage director Jean-Philippe Faille. It's an homage to Barbara's memory, a celebration of Scottish craft and hospitality, and a long-overdue acknowledgment of the Scottish history woven into Montreal's foundation.
