Red Bull Heavy Metal's Final Stop Was Its Best One

The Olympic Stadium hosted the snowboard spectacle's Canadian debut—thousands showing up to prove Montreal is as serious a winter city as ever.

Following two massive February snowfall weekends, Heavy Metal was at its final stop in our city of festivals. Snowboard groups from Whistler to Ontario, came out to support.

What started off as a light rainy morning turned into a high-energy, action-fueled, sunny day in Hochelaga. Folks were running down Pie-IX boulevard trying to get into prime viewing positions. By high noon, people were wrapped up and around Olympic Stadium. For those with friends in the area, they made their own watch parties on nearby apartment balconies.

"The city was as lively as a peak summer day in the middle of June."

As the event got underway, the sun fully came out, basking the hilly landscape and uncovering the swell of people, crowds, on top of buildings and on hills and fences. Some folks were climbing poles, and people now belted around the stadium two-fold. The city was as lively as a peak summer day in the middle of June.
