Montreal’s last full month of summer brings music festivals, neighbourhood street parties, elite tennis, Pride, and a citywide look back at the 1976 Olympics.
August is when Montreal starts behaving as though summer might run out. Parc Jean-Drapeau cycles from indie pop to electronic music, country, and the returning Warped Tour. Wellington Street makes room for salsa dancers, wrestlers, and giant puppets. At the Olympic Park, the city looks back 50 years while finding several reasons to throw another party in the present.
The month’s rhythm moves between large productions and events that belong unmistakably to their neighbourhoods: a block party in Saint-Henri, street food at the Big O, skating on Ontario East, and four days on Monkland Avenue. There are plenty of ticketed commitments below, but some of August’s best propositions remain simple ones—show up outside, find a patch of shade, and see what the street has become.
