Morning, Montreal.

It’s an unseasonable scorcher out there, folks. Summer appears to be, ever so slightly kissing the calendar as cool mornings lead into hot afternoons—but it all couldn’t have come at a better time.

This weekend is full of reasons to dance, eat ice cream, go lotus-eating in parks, see what’s at the cinema, gaze at art, consume BBQ, drink beer, and a bunch of other activities that simply don’t have a place at any other time of year. Montrealers are indeed a hardy Nordic folk, but damn it all if we don’t do an equally good job of shedding layers and living it up when the weather’s Goldilocks levels of just right.

Now, a warning: Forecasts are calling for not-so-sunny times on Saturday and Sunday, but you never know the way the wind will blow. Keep you chins up, use the weekend planner to make plans and backup plans (see: lazy Sunday mornings with our stories from the past week over coffee?), and enjoy your off-hours.

You deserve it, and we’re happy to provide this service for a city we love.

When we first caught up with Daniel Gillis of Lieux Communs, he was swatting mosquitos away on a hectare in Oka, dirt under his fingernails, and had restaurant service at Damas still ahead of him that night.

That's the life he and three partners chose when they decided to build Montreal's first urban winery out of a former textile factory in Ahuntsic-Cartierville.

This week’s read traced how Montreal’s first urban winery—a not-so-quiet-anymore fixture on the city's best wine lists that bets on hybrid grapes and northern terroirs—went from squeezing out 250 bottles in 2018 to full pallets shipped as far as California.

"I really think that we're making wines of our generation," Gillis told us.

Montreal is one of the great electronic music cities in the world, and Dômesicle proves it. The Society for Arts and Technology (SAT) has built a lineup that’ll unfold over 11 consecutive Friday nights from June 12 through August 21, 10 p.m. to 3 a.m. inside the Satosphere.

These nights feature international names like DJ Nobu from Japan, KiNK from Bulgaria, AceMo and Sister Zo from New York, and Belaria from Paris with Montreal artists and collectives. It’s a must-attend event on Montreal's electronic music calendar.

🖼️ The 14th edition of Mural Fest begins, celebrating urban culture over the course of 11 days, with artists, muralists, creators, and festival goers gathering in the Plateau.

🎶 Aire Commune presents Afroteo for a night of Afro beats, reggaeton, dancehall, and soca.

🌭 Little Italy kicks off summer with a neighbourhood BBQ. Hot dogs, DJ sets, cocktails, and ready-to-drink beverages in limited quantities.

🚶 As part of her residency at PHI, artist Eva Quintas and guide Michel Lefebvre lead a guided exhibition, a walk through Montreal’s waterfront.

🍜 The Wing Noodles exhibition opens at Chinatown House, tracing back the origins of a beloved local family business.

🎧 Village au Pied-du-Courant returns for the summer, with live music, food, and nighttime fun.

Sunday

🇱🇧 Sawa and Espace Transmission hold a fundraiser for Lebanon with music, food, drinks, and a market curated with with artisans and partners.
