I’m not one to hand out five-star reviews lightly, but Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie is one of those rare cases. Based on the indie cult web series and its Viceland follow-up, this time-travel mockumentary adventure follows Matt and Jay as their plan to book a show at Toronto’s Rivoli goes horribly awry, sending them back to 2008 in a time machine. It’s inventive, chaotic, consistently funny, and 100% Canadian. It’s the kind of film you need to see with a crowd, and where the jokes linger way after the credits roll.
What makes it special is the sheer audacity of what unfolds on screen. You’re laughing, but you're also wondering how they pulled any of it off: the CN Tower stunt, the scenes with their younger selves, and how they got bottles of Orbitz.
